HIGH POINT, N.C. -- A man is facing multiple charges after authorities say he shot a High Point police officer and assaulted another at a Walmart.

  • A man has been charged after shooting a High Point police officer.
  • Another officer was assaulted.
  • The call came after the man was allegedly trespassing inside a Walmart.

Officer say 26-year-old Tyler Carrico was trespassing inside the Walmart on South Main Street around 9:00 Sunday night and refused to leave.

Police stated that Carrico was near the bathroom saying someone was trying to shoot him.

When an officer arrived, he began checking Carrico for warrants when they say Carrico ran and was taken to the ground and held at gunpoint.

When a second officer arrived, Carrico grabbed the gun and during the struggle the gun fired, hitting the officer in the hand.

Carrico tried to run again, punching the second officer, before being taken again by another officer in the produce section.

He was taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation because of his behavior and faces felony and misdemeanor assault charges.

 

 

The department has yet to release the name of the officer involved. However, he is reportedly out of the hospital and back at home.
 
The officer is not on administrative leave. He is just recovering after getting 5 stitches.
