Clouds have dominated our skies through much of the day. While central locations across North Carolina have been relatively dry, coastal areas have been soaked today. Thanks to a coastal area of low pressure a showers and storms slowly slid north across eastern N.C. for much of the morning. With the coastal low exiting the area our attention turns to a developing area of low pressure coming in our of the Great Lakes region. This new low will bring several rounds of storms to the area late tonight and the coming days. A few storms may be strong to severe. The severe threat is marginal (low) at best. But just because it’s a low chance, doesn’t mean no chance so remain weather aware.

Along with the developing low from the Great Lakes, another area of low pressure will impact our weather. A strong upper level low will look to sit over our area over the next several days. This will keep a deep moist southerly flow into the state. This will keep an elevated rain chance in our forecast over the next 5 to 7 days. Expect scattered to numerous showers and storms over the coming days. Yes there will be breaks in the rain; we’re not expecting rain to fall all day, each day. But with the consistent rainfall we’ll likely see, some urban flooding will be possible. Rainfall expectations range from 2 to 5 or more inches through Tuesday.
