GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Industries of the Blind in Greensboro is looking to expand.

  • Business looking to hire about 30 people
  • Company makes clothing for the Department of Defense
  • Industries of the Blind employees 250 people and the majority are vision-impaired

The company makes about 2,300 shirts and jackets a day for the Department of Defense and is expected to get more work through two new contracts. The first award was earlier this month for a fire retardant army combat uniform trouser. The most recent contract was given this week for improved hot weather combat uniform coats. The contracts run for a year with the potential for extensions.

"The contracts are for one year, but we're always looking for what's the next thing to come on board,” says Richard Oliver, director of government relations. “So, it's rare that we ever have gaps in employment so once you're in you're in."
