GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Beer-makers from around the world had the chance to submit their best for consideration in the third annual American Brewers Palate Awards.

  • Judges sampled entries in more than 20 categories over about seven hours
  • All of the brewers who entered the competition are taking part in the Summertime Brews Fest
  • The judges met in Greensboro this weekend to try them all

The judges met in Greensboro this weekend to try them all.

They started at 9 a.m. on Saturday and sampled entries in more than 20 categories over about seven hours.

While spending a Saturday taste-testing beer may sound like many people's idea of a good time, these judges are no amateurs.

"Most of these guys have been doing it for over 15 years and they've judged dozens and dozens if not hundreds of competitions, so they really know what they're doing with finding the best beer," said competition organizer Derick Schuler.

All of the brewers who entered the competition are taking part in the Summertime Brews Fest at the Greensboro Coliseum later this month.
