GREENSBORO, N.C. -- It's a tough loss for Greensboro native and tennis star John Isner Friday afternoon.

  • The game lasted for six hours and 36 minutes
  • Kevin Anderson won the longest Centre Court match in history
  • Isner got his start at the Spencer Love Tennis Center

Isner played an historic more than six-hour Wimbledon semifinal match Friday and young tennis players at home watched intensely.

The Greensboro Tennis Foundation hosted a watch party to cheer Isner on at Spencer Love Tennis Center where he got his start.

"John did a lot of his training here. He was a great kid coming up, very good tennis player, very well-rounded throughout his junior career. What we're hoping for is, with our program, is to create more kids like John Isner: great on the court and great off the court too," said Mike Belangia, Greensboro Tennis Program’s director.

The Greensboro Tennis Foundation started in 2013 with seven kids.
