RODANTHE, N.C. -- A Dare County vacation home has been marked uninhabitable after parts of the structure have started collapsing into the ocean. 

  • A house in Rodanthe is collapsing into the ocean.
  • Debris could be a safety hazard.
  • Owners plan to move the house. 

The house on Ocean Drive, yards from the Rodanthe Pier, started to lose pieces off its deck after rising waves began striking the structure. 

Local groups are warning beach-goers that debris from the house is creating hazards for nearby swimmers, advising all to swim elsewhere. 

 

 

 Yellow tape around the house warns people not to enter the structure. 

According to Dare County records, the house was built in 1989 and has (or likely had) an estimated tax value of $367,500.

 

 

 According to Chicamacomico Banks Water Rescue, the owners are planning to move the home.
