DURHAM, N.C. – A Durham police officer is being recognized for how she handled a call recently.

  • Officer J.N. Rowsey drew praise from her supervisor.
  • The call involved a woman with dementia who was missing from Wilmington.
  • Rowsey bought the woman a meal since she was hungry.

Officer J.N. Rowsey, went to the scene of a stranded motorist on Interstate 40 and discovered the woman suffered from dementia and had been reported missing from Wilmington.

Upon further investigation, Officer Rowsey learned that the woman had been reported missing from Wilmington and suffers from dementia.

Rowsey also learned that the woman was hungry so she took her to a restaurant and bought the woman food and a drink before taking her to police headquarters to await the arrival of family members.

“Officer Rowsey’s selflessness in making sure (the woman) was taken care of and safe is a testament to her desire to not only serve the citizens of Durham, but also people in general,” her supervisor said on Facebook. “We are proud to have kind and caring officers like Officer Rowsey working for the DPD.”
