A hot and humid weekend is underway across the Carolinas. Today, as we wrap up the month of June, highs are pushing into the lower 90s for for piedmont and foothills and low to mid 80s in the mountains. A few isolated storms will remain possible, and a couple of storms could produce some hail or gusty winds late this afternoon.

The forecast over the next several days looks very much the same. I expect low to mid 80s for the mountains with low and mid 90s around the piedmont. Each day will continue to have the chance of some pop-up afternoon storms.

In fact, the same basic forecast idea looks to hold through most of next week, including Independence Day on Wednesday. Storm chances might increase at the very end of the week as a cold front tries to approach from the north.
