The founder of the nonprofit "Grip It" participated in the first "Access to Recovery Conference" Saturday in Winston-Salem.

He's trying to further the conversation surrounding opioid abuse and legislation that can help people recovering from addiction.

Congressman Ted Budd says, in the past few weeks alone, the house has pushed through about 70 bills related to opioid and addiction issues.

"Getting these through the Senate, that always seems to be the constraint but we've got a great delegation from North Carolina," stated Budd.

"These are bi-partisan issues, so I think they'll move through the Senate really quickly and once they are they'll be on the president's desk and be law."

The conference covered a range of topics from where to find help to how to administer Narcan.
