The incident happened Monday on Reynolda Road in Winston-Salem.

Luckily, the responding officer was an animal lover who was eager to help the poor bird.

"I got out of my vehicle and walked to the hawk, got within a foot or two of it and it didn't even move," said Officer Jenny Britter. "It bristled its feathers but it let me get close. I didn't see any visible injuries but I knew, just by the fact that it was not moving, it had to be injured."

The bird is now in the hands of Wildlife Rehab.

They say the bird suffered trauma and shows the symptoms of being sore.

The hawk is expected to be released in about four days.
