RALEIGH, N.C. -- A voter ID amendment could be on the ballot this fall.

This comes after a previous attempt to enforce the idea of having to show a photo identification before casting a ballot was shot down by the courts in 2016.

The amendment would let the voters decide if it should be enshrined in the state constitution.

Supports say it helps to combat voter fraud.

Opponents, however, say it’s meant to suppress voters from coming to the polls.

This bill is expected to be debated by the full House on Monday.

It would need three-fifths of the full House and Senate to approve it, in order for it to appear on the ballot.
