Police say a group of people were trying to break into cars in a neighborhood until someone confronted them.

When investigators arrived to the scene one victim was found lying on the corner of Joseph Samuels Drive and Promise Land Court with a gunshot wound in his back.

"To see any young man laying in the street, no matter what the situation, is a hurting feeling," said neighbor Alvin Robinson. "I'm looking at it like it could've been my son or grandson."

Friends of the victim's family said he is out of surgery and recovering.

"Being shot in the back at 15 is a lot especially when you are just at the wrong place at the wrong time," Amanda Baker, the victim's mother, said.

She says even if her child was breaking into a car, he didn't deserve what happened.

The incident is still under investigation.
