RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. -- A gun safety lesson went wrong when shots rang out in a Randolph County neighborhood over the weekend.

  • Kids were being taught how to handle a gun
  • A bullet went into a home nearby
  • Homeowner not filing charges but talking about getting a petition

The pastor of Bethany Baptist Church recently bought land off W.O.W. Road. This weekend they were teaching kids how to properly handle a gun.

Police say a bullet went across the street and into a home on Old Castle Road. Now the community is considering their options.

"Well the neighbors are already talking about getting a petition," said Dave Powers, who was in his backyard when a bullet ricocheted. "One neighbor didn't have much luck with the sheriff's department, they say it's a county matter. So we're in the process of talking to officials in Randolph County."

The homeowner of the house that was affected is not filing charges and the campgrounds owner say they will move the shooting range.
