As we wrapped up the weekend on Sunday, we saw hotter temperatures with a few more showers and thunderstorms. More heat and less storms are in the forecast for Monday.

Through the rest of the night we'll see partly to mostly cloudy skies with a chance for a few showers and thunderstorms.

Into the new week, hotter weather is in the forecast. High pressure will push warm air and humid air into North Carolina. This will set the stage for temperatures in the 90s with heat index values near 100 for many locations. These hot temperatures will continue through much of the week.

By Wednesday, we'll see a slightly better chance for showers and afternoon storms. This chance will increase a little more for Thursday and Friday. Daytime highs will lower just a bit by the end of the week due to more clouds and a better chance of showers but they will remain above average for late June.

In the tropics, the National Hurricane Center is monitoring a disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico. It has a low chance for development.
