HIGH POINT, N.C. -- More and more women are learning how to handle firearms.

  • It teaches proper firearm handling, ammunition and laws behind justified self-defense
  • Classes are held once a month

Experts say some men grow up learning about guns, but women tend to catch up a little later in life.

The founder of "Girlz on Fire" in High Point is hoping to help more women get comfortable with guns by offering a women’s concealed carry training.

Women attending the class say the setting is inviting.

“It’s less intimidating when you don't have men who are already so knowledgeable in firearms,” says Marjorie Breazeale.

The classes are meant to help women learn proper firearm handling, ammunition, and laws behind justified self-defense.

Founder, Rhonda Carson says just because you know how to pull the trigger doesn’t necessarily mean you know how to align and grip properly

“I have had women come into class and they've been to the range with their husbands and boyfriends who've taught them how to shoot,” says Carson, “And they didn't know proper grip, proper trigger control, how to align their sights."

Classes are held once a month at their location on Northpoint Avenue in High Point.
