GUILFORD COUNTY -- Guilford County Commissioners and School Board members say school security is a top priority and they're directing resources to improve it.

  • The board hired MGT Consulting Group to do a study on district schools
  • Thursday night, commissioners unanimously agreed to spend $10 million to fund changes
  • The county expects the results from the study by September

The board hired MGT Consulting Group out of Florida to do a study on district schools, including where to make school security upgrades.

Thursday night, commissioners unanimously agreed to spend $10 million to fund those changes.

"It can go for cameras, it can go for swipe cards but we don't know what those projects will be yet. Again, that's going to be for the experts to tell us which direction," said Justin Conrad, a Guilford County Commissioner for District 3.

The county expects the results from the study by September.

Work on security improvements could begin soon after.
