THOMASVILLE, N.C. -- The two brothers who own the Hobby Shop where a Salisbury Police chase ended Thursday are back at work.

  • Wes Anderson had one stab wound a centimeter away from his heart
  • Suspect led officers on a chase after a bank robbery
  • The chase ended in the parking lot of the Hobby Shop

Matt and Wes Anderson were inside their store off Interstate 85 in Thomasville when the suspect's vehicle came flying into their parking lot with blown out tires.

In an attempt to keep the suspect from getting inside, the oldest brother, Wes, intercepted him at front doors.

"Honestly we have police chases that happen out here a lot,” Wes said. “I heard the helicopter so I wanted to go out and watch the chase and they ended up in our parking lot."

Before he knew it, Wes was face to face with the suspect who pulled out a knife, stabbing him just before he was shot by police.

Wes says the suspect tried to stab him multiple times, but he walked away with only one stab wound just one centimeter away from his heart.

"If he wouldn't have gotten to the door and held it, it was just that amount of time allowed me to get to the door,” says his younger brother, Matt. “So we both got to the door and he stabbed him and I was holding the door back and the police officers tazed him two to three times, that I saw, before they had to open fire."

That suspect died at the hospital from one gun shot fired by Salisbury Police. There was a pregnant woman in the suspect’s truck, police say she’s still in the hospital and is not facing any charges at this time.

The SBI is investigating surveillance video from the Hobby Shop along with body cam and dash cam video.
