Multiple organizations play a role in the search for a missing person.

Among them are the North Carolina Task Force Search and Rescue K9 Unit.

These days, search crews have helpful technology, but dogs are still an irreplaceable resource.

"On water, she usually teams with a sonar, so she'll encounter odor before the image would come up on the screen. We're able to give a head's up in that regard," said Roxye Marshall/NC Task For Search and Rescue K9 Unit handler.

Police say if you notice your child is missing, immediately call 911 for help.
