GREENSBORO, N.C. -- City crews have been busy cleaning up untreated wastewater from Greensboro's sewer lines.

  • Two back to back leaks of 2,500 gallons on Cypress Park Road and 30,000 gallon leak on Sierra Drive
  • The city says the numbers of leaks have gone down
  • Several causes of leaks that include aging pipes, debris and grease

There was a leak of about 2,500 gallons on Cypress Park Road last week and a 30,000 gallon leak on Sierra Drive this week.

Even with these back to back leaks, the city says the numbers of leaks have gone down.

"We track it based on a statistic that is state-approved, and that's how many SSO's per 100 miles. We've continued to reduce that every year, and right now we're at about 3.2 SSO's per 100 miles," said Adam Conn, the City Of Greensboro’s operations manager for the Water Resources Department.

There are several causes of leaks that include aging pipes, debris and grease.
