A tropical airmass remains entrenched across the region, and that will largely remain the case through the weekend. This airmass that has fed into the Carolinas has its origins over the Caribbean Sea, so this is rich, deep tropical moisture.

  • Chance for storms continues into Saturday.
  • Heavy downpours could be possible at times.
  • Fewer showers and storms will be the trend for next week.

We will continue to have the chance of some showers and storms, day or night, today into Saturday. The showers and storms will be hit or miss, so some areas will miss out on the rain. However, if you find yourself under some of the showers and storms, heavy tropical downpours will be possible.

For the All-Star festivities out at Charlotte Motor Speedway, it will be the same deal -- some hit or miss showers or storms, but I think there is a reasonable chance we can get the race in Saturday evening.

As we get deeper into the weekend and into next work week, the trend will be toward fewer showers and storms. There will still be some out there, but it looks more like the typical pop-up variety of afternoon showers and storms.

Enjoy the weekend!
