A low pressure system near the Gulf of Mexico will slowly drift north toward the Carolinas over the next few days.

  • Up to 4 inches of rain is likely
  • A mix of thunderstorms and downpours
  • Flooding could become an issue near the end of the week

This system will feed tropical moisture into the region and as a result periods of rain are expected.  Now, heavy downpours and thunderstorms will mix in from time to time.  That could lead to some flooding of local streams and creeks, especially toward the end of the week.  At this point rain chances will remain high through at least Friday.  Additional rain appears probable this weekend though the exact setup will need another day or two to be resolved.

Bottom line, two to four inches of rain is likely for most through this upcoming weekend.  You can expect large breaks in the rain, but determining the timing of them will be difficult beyond 12 hours or so.
