NASHVILLE, Tenn -- The NHL’s Nashville Predators on Sunday honored the hero credited with wrestling a firearm away from the Waffle House shooter, and it may have brought them some luck.

Prior to Game 2 of the playoff series between the Predators and the Winnipeg Jets, James Shaw Jr. got to meet with Predators head coach Peter Laviolette. Shaw was even presented with a personalized Predators jersey.

During the game, the Predators recognized Shaw, along with several first responders, to roaring applause from the crowd.

On April 22, a man entered a Nashville Waffle House restaurant and shot several people. Police credited Shaw’s swift actions with preventing further carnage. Shaw, 29, was wounded in the incident.

Sunday’s game went to double overtime, with the Predators’ Kevin Fiala scoring the winning goal. The Predators will meet the Jets for Game 3 in Winnipeg Tuesday.
