One final storm system in this active weather pattern is heading our way. That storm system began Thursday over the Lower Mississippi Valley, and that system will swing through the Carolinas tonight. Ahead of the system, look for plenty of clouds today as highs warm to near 70.

  • Final storm system in weather pattern is on the way.
  • Storm chance will grow through the night.
  • Showers may linger until Friday.

Showers will then spread in from the west by this evening, and that chance will continue through the night. A little bit of unstable air will creep into the region from the south tonight, so a few thunderstorms could be involved. I can't totally rule out a strong to severe storm, but the overall severe weather threat is low.

A lingering shower is possible Friday, but drier air will win the battle with time. This weekend will feature plenty of sun with Saturday highs in the 70s and Sunday's highs in the 60s.

An extended period of sunny and pleasant weather will then settle in for next week. In fact, look for highs to top 80 by mid-week.
