WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- A church in Winston-Salem has become the victim of a suspected hate crime.

  • A "Black Lives Matter" banner was ripped at a Triad church.
  • The front of the building was also defaced with paint.
  • Repairs will cost about $600.

Unitarian Universalist Fellowship keeps a "Black Lives Matter" banner up over the front of their building.

Early Sunday morning, the banner was ripped down and the word white was spray painted across the doors to the church.

The congregation hung a new banner and held regularly scheduled service later in the morning.

Repairs are estimated to cost about $600.

This is the third time the banner has been ripped down, but the defacing paint is a new escalation.
