GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. -- Several schools in Guilford County will be closed for the remainder of the school year after Sunday's storm left them uninhabitable.

People gathered outside Peeler Elementary School in Greensboro Tuesday morning, passing out food and basic necessities to people in need.

As city crews are working to clear debris and restore power to thousands of people, churches and volunteers are stepping in to help.

"You are just so warmed by the thought that people are actually caring about your life," said resident Portia White.

School officials are directing people to contact the Guilford Education Alliance teach supply warehouse with any school supply donations.

For now, various churches are providing food donations for people in need.
