GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The tornado on Sunday caused extensive damage, collapsing schools, downing power lines and even knocking over trees that killed one person.

Now, a number of families have either no power or no roof over their heads.

In response, the communities of Greensboro came together to set up several sites where families could acquire food Monday.

The call for volunteers to aid those in need was spearheaded by a brother from a local chapter of Omega Psi Phi.

"Resiliency. That's been my word all day; resiliency, and servitude. These people come out here with an attitude of servitude. They're gracious. They're glad to be able to help. The community is receiving us well, and it's just been awesome. And I'll say this about East Greensboro; that the resiliency of the people that are affected has been very important. It's been uplifting to our spirits, and we really are glad to be here, and that God gave us the opportunity to do this,” said Davion Hemphill of the fraternity’s High Point chapter.

Shelters have also been set up for those whose homes were rendered uninhabitable by the storm.
