GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Around this time, things start slowing down at the Salvation Army. Most people have stopped doing donation drives, but the need doesn't stop. This constant need is why Greensboro's Salvation Army is looking at a new grocery store model in Maryland.

This month, the Balitmore Salvation Army opened up the first grocery store in the country. Major Don Vick with Greensboro's organization is watching to see how things pan out there.

"It's not out of question certainly it's something that if it works well it would will likely be adopted by other Salvation Army's across the country,” Major Vick says. “You know, we function in virtually every zip code in the U.S. it's probably not going to be the only one."

Vick says in a given week they hand out food to about a hundred different families.
