RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. -- A cafeteria worker and bus driver for Randolph County Schools has resigned after bringing a gun to school Friday morning.

The sheriff's office says Serena Williams carried a handgun in an enclosed case into the cafeteria at Ramseur Elementary School around 10.

Fellow staff immediately notified administrators and the school went into lockdown.

A district representative says there were no children in the cafeteria at the time.

The school resource officer took the gun and police took Williams into custody.

She's charged with possession of a weapon on educational property.
