WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – It's Cam's Coffee Creations' grand opening in Winston-Salem.

At nine years old, Camden Myers is the owner. He helps because he wasn't helped.

"I really like helping people because I have special needs and they have special needs and because I like the moola," Myers says.

It started out as a hobby at a pop-up shop when nearly two years ago Cam was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury that happened at birth. In three years, Cam was in four different schools that didn't have the resources to help him with skills he learned serving coffee. His mother is his partner in the venture.

"We're showing our community that in fact, we can create a support system for these families and these children and these young adults to help them thrive," Lewis says.

And it seems to be working.

"The kid that you see today, very outgoing, very bubbly is very different from the kid you met two years ago. He was very quiet, we had been in speech for years," Lewis says.

They invited other students with developmental disabilities to come work with their three part-time employees.

"Everybody is doing a great job. It's more of like a team effort so everybody is working together. It's really incredible to watch that," says Jiliana Dulaney a partner with Bespoke Confections.

With each cup served, a new skill learned.
