RALEIGH -- The sign congratulating UNC-Chapel Hill on their 2017 Men's Basketball Championship win has gone missing less than a week after it was erected near the campus of NC State. 

It's no secret that the sign stirred controversy when NCDOT put it up less than three miles from PNC Arena and Carter-Finley Stadiumon I-40

On Friday the sign went missing, and NCDOT says they didn't take it down, making it safe to assume it was stolen.

NCDOT has not said when the sign will likely be replaced.
