ASHEBORO, N.C. -- Police in Asheboro are warning residents that they're cracking down on illegal downtown parking.

Beginning March 1 , they're enhancing a parking enforcement operation.

Police say the crackdown is in response to multiple business complaints of people breaking parking laws in the area.

"We'll check parking lots, malls, any shopping centers, handicap signs, things like that. We'll be checking for any violations people parking in a handicapped spot,” said Lt. Mark Lineberry, Assistant Chief of the Asheboro Police Department.

Police will also be ticketing drivers for blocking fire hydrants, parking in non-parking spaces, parking on a yellow curb and parking longer than the allowed time.
