CHARLOTTE -- A new documentary is shining light on the importance of historically black colleges and universities. 

While some may question whether HBCUs are still relevant, the documentary aims to prove they're not just that, but they're still very much needed.

It's titled "Tell Them We Are Rising" and will air on Monday at 10 p.m. on UNC-TV. At 9 p.m., a roundtable discussion will be held with various HBCU presidents about issues facing the schools.

They are 101 HBCUs in the United States, 10 of which still call North Carolina home.
