WALKERTOWN, N.C. -- The mother of a 4-year-old girl who went to Middle Fork Elementary school says a teacher bit her daughter's middle finger, and could have broken her index finger.

On Jan. 24, Dominique Davis's daughter, Akyra, came home with dried blood on her hand. Akyra has Doose syndrome which means she gets seizures that are uncontrollable by medication. It also makes it difficult for her to communicate.

When Davis asked her daughter what happened to her finger, she originally said she didn't know.

Davis contacted the teacher about the incident and the teacher said it was caused by a broken basket in the classroom. The next day, Davis says the teacher switched the story and said it was caused by a paper towel dispenser.

That same day, Davis took Akyra to urgent care and they told her the finger was infected due to a human bite and the other finger was broken.

Winston-Salem/ Forsyth County Schools say they launched an internal investigation. The Forsyth County Sheriff's office is also investigating.
