A winter storm is underway for many in the region today. Snow will continue to fall for a majority of the day, ending in our foothill areas first and then exiting the Triad by late afternoon. The lightest snow accumulations will likely occur in the foothills, but still I expect at least a couple of inches of snow there for most.

For the Triad area and points east toward the Triangle, I am expecting a general 3 inches -6 inches type of snowfall. As always, there will be a lot of localized variability depending on where the heavier snow bands set up, but that is the general idea.

Travel will be very difficult today, tonight and Thursday morning. Temperatures will remain below freezing through the day, and then tonight will be bitterly cold with lows well down into the teens.

Highs will warm into the lower 40s Thursday, but then we drop well below freezing again Thursday night into Friday morning.

A pronounced warming trend is then on the way for the weekend.

Stay safe!
