RANDLEMAN --  As December snow flies, Christmas nears -- and it's been months since a grandmother's seen her granddaughter.

"She's in foster care, but I do not know where," said Linda Benskey.

Benkey’s the grandmother of Angel Byrd.

After she made several concerned calls to police, then-5-year-old Angel Byrd was found in a home on Back Street in September.

The little girl he was locked in a stairway closet, malnourished, burned and bruised.

Benskey says it’s hard facing the holidays without her granddauther.

It is hard, it's more hard thinking what she's thinking about it, why we're not around, why we've not come to see her, why we've not called her,” said Benskey.

Angel's father, Adam Byrd, and his friend Crystal Carnahan are facing child abuse charges.

There's an eviction notice for Byrd on the front door of the home.

Randolph County DSS Assistant Director Richard Park said one employee's been fired for "grossly inefficient job performance," while another left  for "personal reasons."

Benskey says the system needs revamping.

"There needs to be new rules, new laws, so these children aren't left in places that aren't safe," said Benskey.

Benskey is planning a get together Sunday to make cards and posters for Angel, in hopes Angel will hear or see about the event.  It's Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Randleman Elementary in Randleman.

Benskey’s hoping to see Angel for Christmas.

“I want here to know we're still here, we're still fighting for her, we still care about here, we've not abandoned her,”  said Benskey.
