DURHAM -- It's Thanksgiving Day and that means the Durham Rescue Mission is hard at work putting the finishing touches on their annual Thanksgiving community dinner.

For 43 years, the mission has been making the holidays much brighter for people in need.

Over night and into the morning, dozens of volunteers roasted 75 turkeys for their annual event to make sure everyone in the community has a hot meal.

They have an itinerary set when volunteers will check the temperature of the turkeys, and then when the chopping and saucing of the meat takes place.

More than 500 volunteers will be on site throughout the day to make the mission a reality, not counting the hundreds of volunteers who donated food.

It's the largest volunteer participation event of the year.

Meals will be served at noon, as well as games for kids, and grocery and clothing giveaways for families.
