WILMINGTON -- The Wilmington group of Wreaths Across America needs your help.

Each year the organization annually places Christmas wreaths at national cemeteries across the county.

More than 5,700 veterans are laid to rest at the Wilmington National Cemetery, but organizers only have 3,700 decorations.

“This is a very worthwhile ceremony that we do in a remembrance of all of our fallen veterans," says Col. Gerald West.

A $15 donation sponsors a wreath and gives a small contribution to the 21 foundations involved.

Many cemeteries across the nation hold annual ceremonies where volunteers call out the names of the service members while placing the wreath on their graves.

“It’s the best time I’ve ever seen for everybody to come together,” Say Maj. Rick Paxton.

It’s another year to honor, teach and remember those who severed.

"Our goal is to honor, remember and teach. Honor those who have fallen , remember the Veterans and the families that are here now and to teach the younger generation about what the sacrifices have been from all the people that are buried here in this grave site,” West says.

A public ceremony is set for December 16 at noon at the national cemetery on Market Street.
