BOONE, N.C. -- It's a sad, but undeniable fact that when people go to animal shelters looking for dogs, they usually want puppies.

The section of the Watauga County Humane Society that houses older dogs can house the same dog for years, while puppies are regularly adopted hours after they become available.

But one anonymous donor has decided to change that by donating the adoption fees for every dog at the shelter over six.

Meaning, while they last, you can get a mature fur-buddy of your own for no charge.
