STATESVILLE, N.C. -- A well-known bicyclist from Statesville is still fighting for his life after being hit by a deer on Sept. 26.

According to a GoFundMe page, Barry Whitesides, an avid bike rider and photographer in Iredell County, was riding his bike when a deer crashed into him, fracturing his skull, collar bone, ribs and collapsing a lung. 

Whitesides has been in a coma since the accident but is showing signs of improving.
