HIGH POINT, N.C. -- The High Point Fire Department is investigating after a deadly fire broke out at an apartment in the city Monday afternoon.

Emergency crews responded to the complex on Northgate Court around 3:30.

It took fire crews about 10 minutes to put out the blaze.

Once the flames were extinguished, a man was found in the living room of the unit.

Witnesses say neighbors tried to get the man out, but could not overcome the smoke.

The Battalion Chief says he has no reason to believe the fire was suspicious.

The victim's identity has not been released.
