DURHAM -- The Durham man known for giving away Krispy Kreme Doughnuts and other acts of kindness has died.

Chris Rosati passed away Thursday at the age of 46.

He graduated from Durham academy in 1989 and was known for giving back despite his illness.

Shortly after being diagnosed with ALS in 2013, Rosati had an idea to steal a Krispy Kreme truck and drive it around Durham to hand out free doughnuts.

He wanted to take his mind off of his problems by bringing joy to others.

When Krispy Kreme found out about his plans, they decided to help him out. They worked with him to give away 1,000 free doughnuts in Durham and the story made national headlines.

A few years later, Rosati founded the Inspire Media Network which helped students find creative and extraordinary ways to give back.

Rosati leaves behind his wife and their two young daughters.
