ONSLOW COUNTY -- Onslow County Schools honored their community partners on Tuesday for their help with students.

The program is called "BASES," that stands for "Businesses Assisting Schools in Educating Students."

On Tuesday, the system recognized more than 175 area businesses for their contributions.

Under the BASES program, these partners have made donations, provided “in-kind” gifts and provided volunteer help in schools.

Administrators say the program has improved educational opportunities and provided mentors to students.

"They're giving you those special in-kind services that you can't put a dollar amount on, and we appreciate them so much and are just proud that they continue to believe that Onslow County Schools is a place to support and give hope to our students as well," said Pamela Thomas, chairwoman of the Onslow County Board of Education.

One of the awards on Tuesday went to Spectrum News.
