RALEIGH – To celebrate today’s opening of the 150th North Carolina State Fair, you can get in for just $1.50. Normally, it would cost $10.

Many of the food vendors are also offering specials for $1.50 as well Thursday.

Gates opened at 3 p.m. and every hour today fair staff is handing out 150 free ride passes and other prizes as well.

Remember, however, this is just a one day special as the eleven-day fair gets underway.

All week, crews have been setting up the rides and booths and the Department of Labor conducted thorough inspections of all the rides.

The Wake County Sheriff’s Office says nearly 250 law enforcement officers will be at the fair. Some will be in uniform while others will b undercover.

When it comes to the new attractions at the fair, this year you’ll be able to sample North Carolina beer and wines. Of course, there’s always new food to try as well. This year we’ll see deep-fried dirty rice, firecracker shrimp and Cheerwine cake.

Remember to watch for heavy traffic if you’re evening commute takes you through Interstates 40 and 440 by Wade Avenue and Blue Ridge Road. Especially, with the Bruno Mars concert this evening.
