HIGH POINT -- Funds are being raised for retired K9 officers in both High Point and Archdale.

The owner of Canine Solutions hopes to raise $10,000 for half a dozen dogs.

Once the officers retire, the police department no longer pays for their veterinary bills or medicine.

The costs land on the dog's partner.

"Start adding a dollar a day for a pill, $50 a month for a bag of food and then their average vaccinations and health care and blood work. All of a sudden over a period of a year, you're looking at an average of $100, $125 a month," said John Grein, owner, High Point Canine Solutions.

So far, he has raised about $6,000.
