WINSTON-SALEM--A major nutrition company is looking for dozens of workers as it continues its expansion in the Piedmont Triad.

On Friday, Herbalife held the first of four job fairs to begin the first phase of hiring for those new jobs, since the company announced it was doubling its work force earlier this month.

After getting laid off a year ago, Priscilla Glenn is hoping to work for Herbalife.

"I was in computer operations at my job before, and I hope to find that here,” Glenn said.

She's in the right place.

The company is hiring for IT jobs—along with several others—as part of its expansion.

"We have a particular focus on our production jobs, which include our manufacturing technicians and packaging associates,” said Herbalife HR manager Annie Tyson Jett. “We need some forklift drivers. We also need some people from the particular standpoint of IS because our worldwide information system department is here in Winston-Salem."

Herbalife joined forces with the Winston-Salem Urban League Friday to host the first job fair to hire for those jobs.

"We want local people to get jobs, and they're a good company with good benefits to work for, and we're pleased to partner with them today,” said Patricia Sadler, workforce development director for the Winston-Salem Urban League.

The jobs pay—on average—about $55,000 a year.

"The company's been around a long time, and they're going through some things,” said job seeker Hubbard. “But the opportunity to work for a large, established company is something I'm interested in."

Leaders with Herbalife's HR department say they're looking for people with experience, but if you don't have all the skills the job requires, they have a special on-site training program.

"We bring people into the facility, and if they don't have the manufacturing experience, they come in as an entry-level employee and begin to gain that experience,” Jett said.

The company expects to fill about 100 jobs in the next two months.

It’s holding three other job fairs. Two are next week at the High Point and Thomasville Career Centers.

The other will be held next month in conjunction with Goodwill.
