WINSTON-SALEM -- The Innovation Quarter at Wake Forest has landed another big tenant and continues to focus on expansion.

The business and research park recently announced that Mullen, an advertising agency with offices in Boston, New York and Los Angeles, would relocate its Winston-Salem operations to the site.

The agency will occupy a near 35,000 square foot space in the Quarter’s 525@vine building, which opened last year. Mullen joins tenants like the YMCA , Forsyth Tech and others.

“We have here already business and education and research and now, marketing and commerce, so it’s a very exciting addition,” said Eric Tomlinson, president of Innovation Quarter.

Taylor Bryant, president of Mullen North Carolina, said the company was drawn to the space due to its open layout and opportunities for collaboration across sectors.

“I think it's been a real great match for us and this space and what it's trying to accomplish,” he said.

All 150 of Mullen’s local employees will be moving to the new space, which Mullen said has enough space to accommodate plans to bring on more employees in the future.

Such job creation is one of Innovation Quarter’s key focus areas.

“A very important responsibility that we have is to provide an environment that's conducive to companies both locating here, but also staying within the city,” said Tomlinson.

Tomlinson expects the number of people working in the Quarter to rise to nearly 6,000 from the current 3,000 by the end of 2016. That growth will be driven in part by the opening of a community park next month and a Wake Forest Baptist Medical education facility next summer.
