RALEIGH, N.C. -- Being the best athlete we can be. That's the goal most parents have for their kids growing up. But what can the game do for us off the court? That's the question a North Carolina camp featuring an NBA a TV star is trying to answer, while also working on kid's skills on the hardwood.

Dwon Clifton, Executive Program Director for Sports With A Purpose, sat down with Spectrum News anchor Caroline Blair, for a look at how they’re working to make a difference long after the ball has left the court.

A former Division I college basketball player at UNCG turned sports agent, Clifton has played and worked alongside some of the best in the business. And now, the Triad native and current Raleigh resident is  sharing his wealth of knowledge with future generations.

Taking place July 23 27 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Raphael Catholic School in Raleigh, Clifton says the Sports summer basketball camp (SWAP) will work to improve kids skills on the court, their mentality, and also strive for a purpose in their everyday lives.

Joining him on the court is first round draft pick and NBA superstar Kyle Anderson, now of the Memphis Grizzlies. The son of a retired educator and a former All-American basketball player at UCLA, Anderson is a smart player on the court. But he’s also an advocate for mental health awareness, and plans to encourage the young campers to speak out about struggles in their lives. He will also help them work on their ball and court awareness and other skills.

Also joining the team is the  star of Nickelodeon’s hit kids show Game Shakers, Sheldon Bailey, a North Carolina native who’s also an athlete turned actor. He plans to share his testimony with the team of kids, and explain how his life is the perfect example of how sports can prepare you for other successes in life.
