RALEIGH, N.C.--  Summer is often a much needed time away from the classroom for students.  But for some, the gap in between teaching is tough. Students can now get a jump-start on the school year through the Boys and Girls Club of America’s digital learning platform.

Spectrum News anchor Caroline Blair spoke with David Crusoe, senior director of Youth Digital Engagement, and Chrissy Booth, senior director of Youth Development for the organization.

They say summer learning loss is a real problem, especially for low income students who have fewer resources at home. That’s why the Boys & Girls Club is offering a new digital learning platform to help kids across the country keep their knowledge strong over the summer months.

The club's Power Hour and Summer Brain Gain are programs they say that can help kids become more effective and engaged learners. The goal is to help these kids stay on track to graduate on time and create a plan for their future.

Kids and teenagers can also prepare for tomorrow through the club's digital platform, focusing on STEM jobs (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).

These careers are growing nearly twice as fast as other fields and resulting in millions of positions across the country. Booth and Crusoe said this is a fun, easy and mobile-friendly social platform that enables kids to play games, build things and even connect with their friends.
