NORTH CAROLINA -- Early voting for the May primary ends Saturday.

According to the state board of elections, more than 178,000 people, which is about 2.5 percent of registered voters, have cast ballots across the state so far. One political analyst isn't surprised by the light turnout.

"Well, actually we don't have any big statewide races. No gubernatorial, no U.S. Senate race. So, that has really depressed the turnout. We're kind of in a blue moon cycle, once in a blue moon cycle and voter turnout just drops in these years."

The primary is on May 8.
