RALEIGH -- Dallas Woodhouse of the state Republican Party and Wayne Goodwin of the state Democratic Party joined Capital Tonight's Tim Boyum to talk about issues of the day.

  • Democrats say there is a surplus that could go toward teacher pay.
  • Republicans say they have already increased teacher pay and investment in public schools.

One of the most heated topics was on the upcoming teacher protests set for the opening day of the General Assembly's short session.

"The state has $500 million surplus under a Republican-controlled General Assembly," stated Goodwin. "That should go toward teacher pay and public schools."

However, Woodhouse replied by saying, "Republicans have increased teacher pay and state investment in public schools since they have been in power."
